Hahaha! This is gold: Why was I not informed about Bruce Lee?
"The matter of Bruce Lee and his incredible kick-assness should have
been brought to my attention months—nay, years—ago. If by no one else,
then at least by my parents, who have an obligation to provide me with
food, water, and shelter, as well as to make sure I am kept fully
abreast of any awesome guys who can punch so fast it's like they have
40 fists. Is this not their responsibility as my guardians and role
models? God only knows what long-term effects their negligence will
have on me."
Another one is enlightened every day. I love you Bruce Lee!
Apparently, China is making a 40-part TV series about the life of Bruce Lee, called The Legend of Bruce Lee. And guess who's playing him? None other than Danny Chan Kwok-Kuen... otherwise known as that Bruce Lee lookalike goal keeper in Shaolin Soccer.
Dang he looks like Bruce Lee!
Virgin Credit Card has an inane ad campaign that looks a lot like this:
Only one word describes this: LAME
I find it especially ironic since Virgin once withdrew an advertising competition, because too many people depicted Richard Branson in "compromising" situations. So it's not okay to poke fun of ol' Branson, but it's okay to racially stereotype ethnic minorities? The marketers who thought of this campaign should be roundhouse kicked in the head by a real martial artist. Bruce Lee is with me... are you?
Virgin has just lost a few more customers.
I was flipping channels at a friend's place once when I found a cartoon called "American Dragon Jake Long" on the Disney Channel. I was so intrigued by this that I ended up getting the game for my DS. Well, not much can be said about the game, although I love the concept (but not the gongs). In a nutshell, it's about an Asian American kid who can turn into a dragon to fight bad guys. But what I really dig about this is the fact that they call him "American Dragon". It's like his "Asian-ness" (is that a word?) doesn't really matter, he's American just like everybody else. What's also cool is that his love interest is a blonde girl called Rose. Here's the description of Jake Long on the Disney website:
"Jake's just your average 13-year-old video game-playing, comic book-loving, skateboarding kid... except for, you know, that whole dragon thing."
I love that!!! When I was 13, I played video games, loved comic books and skateboarded too... I'm just like him! ... (Except for, you know, that whole dragon thing...)
I wish I had cartoons like that when I was young. It would have been cool having an Asian role model as a kid.
Thank Heavens for Bruce Lee.
